Weekly Meeting – Rachel Hazelip, A Gen Z’s Perspective on getting back to “We The People” – Snake River Event Center (Shilo Inn, Idaho Falls)

Rachel is a young (Generation Z) politician from Idaho’s Canyon County and was a candidate for state Representative (District 10) in the 2022 primary election running ran against current Speaker of the House, Mike Moyle, a 25-year incumbent. Rachel received 44% of the votes which is more than any of his prior opponents in 67 days of campaigning. At age 24, she was also the youngest candidate in Idaho to run in the 2022 legislative and statewide elections.  She is currently an elected official in the Republican Party and holds the position of Canyon County Youth Committeeperson.

Rachel was homeschooled from K-12th grade and raised in Nampa Idaho. She is a Historian with degrees in Criminal Justice, Political Science, International Studies, and History.  She is currently finishing her Master’s degree in Public Policy (International Affairs) concurrently with her Ph.D. in Public Policy (Chinese Affairs and National Security).  She is an educator and has taught a variety of subjects in middle school, high school, and university classrooms in several countries overseas and in Idaho.  She currently works as an educational tutor, editor, and assistant military history curator.
