Weekly Town Hall – Randy Neal, Bonneville County Prosecuting Attorney

Stand Up For Idaho’s July 2nd Town Hall features Bonneville County Prosecuting Attorney Randy Neal.

Funding for Public Defenders recently changed from Bonneville County to the state of Idaho.  This means there are potentially more Public Defenders than there are attorneys to prosecute crimes.  This impacts the ability of the Prosecuting Attorney’s office to effectively prosecute crimes, resulting in undesirable plea bargaining when cases should actually be brought to trial.  Randy said he has tried to remedy this by requesting additional funding from Bonneville County to enable him to hire more attorneys, possibly using funding previously used by the County to fund Public Defenders.  However, the County says there is no funding available.

So where did the money go?  Are we to be tough crime or soft on crime?  Is this an issue we should be concerned about?  Come ask the hard questions.
